Position Summary:

A Network Simulation Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and optimizing network infrastructure through the use of simulation tools. He/She will be responsible for creating virtual environments that replicate real-world networking scenarios to assess performance, troubleshoot issues, and plan for network scalability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Network Design and Simulation:
    • Design and simulate complex network architectures using simulation tools.
    • Develop models that mimic real-world network conditions and behaviors.

  • Performance Analysis:
    • Analyze the performance of networks in simulated environments.
    • Identify bottlenecks, latency issues, and optimize network configurations

  • Troubleshooting:
    • Use simulations to troubleshoot and diagnose network problems.
    • Implement solutions and test their effectiveness in the simulated environment.

  • Capacity Planning:
    • Conduct capacity planning simulations to assess network scalability.

    • Evaluate the impact of adding new devices or services to the network.

  • Security Testing:
    • Simulate security scenarios to assess the resilience of the network to cyber threats.

    • Implement and test security protocols and measures.

  • Protocol Testing:
    • Test and validate networking protocols in a simulated environment.

    • Ensure compatibility and adherence to industry standards.

  • Collaboration with Network Architects:
    • Collaborate with network architects to translate real-world network requirements into simulation models.

    • Provide insights and recommendations based on simulation results.

  • Documentation:
    •  Document simulation configurations, parameters, and results.

    • Create comprehensive reports for stakeholders, including recommendations for network improvements.

  • Continuous Learning:
    • Stay abreast of emerging networking technologies, simulation tools, and industry best practices.

    • Incorporate new knowledge into simulation methodologies.

  • Scripting and Automation:
    • Utilize scripting languages (e.g., Python) for automating simulation processes.

    • Develop scripts to simulate dynamic network conditions and events.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 
  • Strong understanding of networking principles, protocols, and architectures.
  • Proficiency in network simulation tools (e.g., Cisco Packet Tracer, GNS3, NS-3).
  • Experience with scripting and automation languages (e.g., Python).
  • Knowledge of security protocols and best practices.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills for troubleshooting and optimizing networks.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills to convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail in creating accurate and representative simulation models.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Time management skills to handle multiple simulation projects simultaneously.
  • Flexibility to adapt to evolving network requirements and technologies.
